The basic specs don’t dissuade you much from that assumption, either. (I have heard that these used the same circuit board.) A Brownface Deluxe, or the holiest of grails, a Brownface Showman, would be awesome. Compact Cutie At a glance, it’s easy to write off the Princeton as the practice and student amp that Fender designed it to be back in 1961. I normally have the channel Volume control between 9-10 oclock. FWIW, I live in an apartment, very often play guitar 11pm - 1am, and my most-played amp right now is an AC30. The original Vibroverb RI from the early ‘90s was a Brownface circuit, as was the Custom Vibrolux they built for years. I keep saying folks oughta try amps in-person to figure out issues like this (admittedly difficult to do with some brands/models). I’m thrilled to see Fender venturing into Brownface RIs, and hope that they see fit to do a few more. If I were to come into big money, there are a couple of guitars I might add to my collection, but I promise you that there would be any number of amps added to my collection. Amps, guitars and effects keep my twisted mind busy like nothing else in this world, and are the perfect counterbalance to the 1s and 0s of my workweek. The amp is hand-wired, and equipped with the artists favorite features: Fender Vintage Blue tone caps, Schumacher transformers, and upgraded Eminence 12. Hey, I’m a freak! (Just confirming what all of you think when you meet together to plot against me.) I love amps and find them far more fascinating than guitars. I love the “plateau” between clean and broken up, and one characteristic shared by my favorite amps is a fairly broad plateau, which allows me to straddle that line easily. Princetons are not, by their character, high-gain screechers, but they can create a pleasant overdriven sound at a reasonable volume. It’s a unique spot in Fender’s lineup, which is a great bridge between the single-ended Champ and the higher gain Deluxe. The circuit for the Brownface Princeton is quite similar to the Tweed Vibrolux, but the signal path is slightly different.Īs I understand it, the power section of the Princeton has changed very little (if at all) between the Brownface and Blackface eras. This amp was introduced about a year and a half ago. One thing I learned in all of this was the fact that a Princeton is a cathodyne phase inverter, which adds no gain, as opposed to the Deluxe Reverb, which has a long-tailed phase inverter, which adds gain at the PI stage. This used Fender 62 Princeton Amp Chris Stapleton Edition is in on trade and it is in great shape. There’s nothing wrong with marketing the amp this way, but it won’t turn anyone into Chris Stapleton. When a contemporary artist reworks one of his favorite vintage amps and offers it to the public, what more could you ask for Featuring incredible vintage. Beyond the speaker difference, the 62 Princeton has a different fundamental tone. The tremolo is to die for and I love having a 12' speaker after years of playing through the 10' Celestion Gold I have in my Princeton Reverb. I got to play the prototype Tremor and mine is the first production item off of Winnie’s vast Tremor assembly line. The Chris Stapleton Princeton is the same circuit that has existed for 57 years, and putting a 12 speaker in a Princeton is nothing new, but the package is market friendly. Ive only played it for a half hour or so and at first blush Ill say Im quite impressed. I have a unique privilege, in that I probably am the geographically closest G-T member to Winfield Thomas (excluding Winnie himself), so I’ve played pretty much every model that Winnie currently builds, and a few of his experiments. I’ve played both and can’t detect any difference in either sound or response.
